I preorder favorite author's new books to be sure I miss nothing! This installment of the Maeve Kerrigan and Josh Derwent duo was, once again, a pleasure to read - good dialogue, vivid characters, compelling story line. I especially like it that both Maeve and Josh have changed over the life of this series, as you would expect of real people; their relationship with one another has changed as well - still a little stroppy, some untouched issues lurking, but they have mellowed some, perhaps because Maeve is now a DS. I like their dynamic, and I think it adds interest to the story. This is a pretty complicated plot and could be confusing if not for the good description of characters, keeping them firmly in the readers' minds - no "who is that again?" I don't think plot synopses are helpful to a prospective reader, but knowing that there's some pretty graphic violence and that fundamental religion is pretty central to the theme with some negative connotations might be of use. I thought the story line was be a bit too complicated, and I thought that some of the death's were unnecessary to a satisfactory conclusion. I suspected that I had the ending figured out and was somewhat disappointed, but oh boy, I was wrong. Another "gotcha" from Ms. Casey. I'll continue to be a fan of this fine writing.

Best Maeve Kerrigan yet! So many interesting facets to the story, exciting without being too crazy. Can't wait for the next in the series.
Another exceptional mystery by Jane Casey. She never fails to impress with her descriptive writing. Love the interplay between Maeve and Derwent. A very solid read. Can't wait for the next installment.
One of my favorite detective series. I love the mysteries, but even more I like the development and interaction of the recurring characters -- Derwent and Maeve and the rest of the team. Hoping for the return of Godley at some point, and more info on Rob.
Not quite as engaging as previous books in the same series. Maeve seems to have become too safe and secure in her larger more mature role, which takes off some of the edge. Still good. I'll certainly buy the next chapter. Just a little disappointing versus previous very strong outings.
I enjoy all of Jane Casey’s novels in this series. She knows how to write a great mystery. But I am very disappointed that there was not an audible version available. All her other novels had this. Did she change publishers?..why don’t they have audible available for US?
I was happy to see that there was a new Maeve Kerrigan book out. Bot for a plot based on domestic ordinary people there was an awful lot of deaths. I suppose the point was that they weren't ordinary people. However I found the plot not very realistic. The banter between Maeve and Derwent was enjoyable as ever, but is he getting a bit soft?
It felt like forever waiting for this to come out. I was so excited! This book did not disappoint. It was excellent and i couldn't put it down. I love Maeve Kerrigan. Such a fantastic character. Highly recommended this series. Loved it!!
