Christen understands the value of getting together with others, no matter where and how. I loved her line that loneliness is a disease (which it is!) and that community heals that disease. A beautiful book and author who lives her message.
Thank you, Christen, for reminding us that God invites us to release our anxieties, receive others in love, and rejoice in the moment. A book for every woman!
Do you struggle with wanting everything to be just right, with being brave or confident enough to host a get together, with opening your heart and your home up to truly enjoy the most that the friendships on your life have to offer? If so, this book is absolutely perfect for you! Christen dies such a beautiful job of pouring out how she has overcome her own insecurities and drive for perfection to find the truest of relationships and first of friendships. She will inspire you to host your own gathering or just met that girl friend for coffee. You will laugh and cry with her as she bares her soul and reveals how God has used hospitality to unleash His goodness all around her. And she even provides some great recipes and tried and true entertaining ideas to make the next get together you host even easier! This is a must read!!! It would also make a great book to read together with some friends or even a small group study!
This book is great for women of all ages! I love how Christen weaves her own personal experience of learning to overcome striving for perfection while giving Biblical based instruction on how to overcome striving in our own lives. We were all created for community and when we live in the unity that community provides we are able to freely love and support each other in a new way. My favorite example in the book is the store bought cupcake vs the home made cupcake. Sometimes what is important is that we are simply present. Belonging to a true community of love and friendship leaves grace for those days where we simply can't bake the homemade cupckae but need to bring the store bought one instead. This book is a great reminder of God's love for us and wonderful encouragement for any woman to know she is not alone in the battle of perfection. Thank you Christen for your vulnerability in sharing your story - I know everyone that reads this book will relate to at least portion of your testimony!
This is a book about Southern Tradition and loving Jesus.
We all want to be that person - THAT person - who has her relationships, her roles, her life all figured out. INVITED quickly dispels the quest to be this illusive woman. Instead, it it presents strong evidence for life's possibilities when our need for "connection, not perfection" is recognized and embraced. With humble tribute to Christ Who centers her, the author gives hope to those of us who have long cast a suspicious eye towards both Martha Stewart and Pinterest. Both personal (you will cringe and identify with her stories) and practical (super suggestions and recipes for planning any event), this is a book you will want to read and discuss with other fellow perfectionists. Trust me - you will want a second helping to share with friends - order two!
